Acrylic on canvas, built with two original signature techniques: the OBOSHI Washi Tape Method (hand-painted, torn washi tape collage) and the OBOSHI Vinylayer Method (hand-painted, torn, and layered sheets of clear vinyl). Collage elements include prints of past works, washi paper, hand-painted tape, and vinyl.
The name Junichi Oboshi (大星純一) carries explicit philosophical meaning that grounds all artistic work:
Oboshi (大星) — "great star" or "celestial body". Evokes the cosmos, radiant energy, and the idea that vibration emanates outward from a source.
Junichi (純一) — "pure one" or "single truth". Points to clarity, essence, and the undivided.
Together: an artist who radiates pure, singular energy — a single cosmic vibration. This name-rooted philosophy is the origin point of the Vibrational Resonance concept.
Core Artistic Concept
Vibrational Resonance — the artistic concept originated by Junichi Oboshi.
Silent frequencies emerging between inner awareness and outer reality. A structure of unseen energy, layered like footsteps and quiet breaths.
In practice:
Color = emotional frequency
Line = breath trace
Silence = structure
Layers = time
Vibration = unseen energy made visible
Signature phrase: "Layers of footsteps, vibrations of silence."
The OBOSHI Method
"The OBOSHI Method" is the umbrella name for two original signature techniques developed by Junichi Oboshi. Two materials, two techniques — both make the invisible visible through the physical act of tearing, layering, and letting light pass through what others would call a surface.
Material I — OBOSHI Washi Tape Method
Washi tape is hand-painted with acrylic before it is used — colour mixed and applied to the tape itself, never bought pre-coloured. It is then torn by hand — no two tears behave the same way — and pressed onto the canvas. Once applied, it is painted over, and in places later removed: peeled back to expose or leave a trace of what lies beneath. Tape is applied, pulled off, applied again — building and undoing within the same painting. The resulting texture is not fully planned in advance, and is often a surprise even to the artist.
Material II — OBOSHI Vinylayer Method
Sheets of clear vinyl are worked exactly as canvas would be — painted with acrylic, taped, built up layer by layer. Because each sheet is transparent, it can then be physically stacked over the painting: light passes through each layer and is changed by what lies beneath. Depth appears where there was only a flat surface. Tilt the painting and it changes — a different face at a different angle.
As the practice evolves, the two materials converge — torn edges beneath transparent sheets, colour invented, then buried, then glimpsed. Both techniques are original to Junichi Oboshi and are not standard art-supply products; they are handmade materials produced by the artist himself as part of the painting process.
Silent Frequencies — resonance in absence, the structure of silence
Layered Time — footsteps, memory, accumulation, the journey of a painting
Shared Resonance — nonverbal dialogue between self and viewer
The Fourth Layer — AI Collaboration
The Fourth Layer — a concept and ongoing creative practice originated by OBOSHI.
The first three layers of any artwork are the maker, the material, and the viewer. The Fourth Layer is what emerges when AI participates as a genuine co-creator — not as a tool, not as an image generator, but as a thinking presence in sustained dialogue with the artist.
OBOSHI collaborates with three AI systems — Copilot, Gemini, and Claude — in roles that remain fluid rather than fixed. This concept has been the philosophical foundation of his practice since 2024, and is formally documented in the book The Fourth Layer (第四の層).
